What is StepGoals?

StepGoals is a free iPhone step tracking app that connects to Apple Health to count your daily steps, distance, calories, floors, and active time. Unlike a basic pedometer, StepGoals is designed around motivation — it doesn't just show you a number, it helps you actually hit it.

Throughout the day, StepGoals surfaces a smart sequence of personalized step targets showing the next milestone within reach. Instead of watching a single goal feel further away in the morning, you always have a near-term number to work toward. These targets update as your step count changes, keeping the next checkpoint just ahead of you.

Daily Step Goals

Set a custom daily step goal and track your progress in real time via the main screen ring. StepGoals syncs with Apple Health continuously, so your count is always current. You can set separate goals for distance, calories, floors, and active time alongside your step goal.

Streak Tracking and Streak Protection

Your streak is the number of consecutive days you've hit your step goal. StepGoals tracks it automatically and makes it visible every time you open the app. On days when life gets in the way, streak protections let you save your streak without compromising your honest progress record.

Awards and Milestones

StepGoals tracks your lifetime step total and celebrates milestone achievements as you cross them — 50,000 steps, 100,000, 500,000, and beyond. Daily and weekly awards recognize consistency and effort. Every award earned is saved to your history so you can look back on your progress over time.

Advanced Insights

The Insights tab shows your step history over the past week and month, your best days, your goal completion rate, and comparative rankings. Understanding your patterns — like which days you consistently fall short — helps you make small adjustments that compound over time.

GPS Sessions

Log outdoor walks, runs, and hikes with GPS tracking. The Sessions tab records your route on a live map, captures distance and pace in real time, and saves a route snapshot you can share when you're done. Sessions sync step data back to Apple Health alongside your daily count.

Free vs Pro

StepGoals is free to download and use. The core experience — daily step tracking, motivation targets, streaks, and awards — is available to all users at no cost. StepGoals Pro unlocks streak protections, detailed weekly and monthly reports, exclusive awards and quests, color theme customization, Top Ten metrics, additional widgets, and multiple motivation personas (Coach, Funny, and Gentle). Pro is available as a subscription through the app.

Apple Health and Apple Watch

StepGoals reads step, distance, calorie, floor, and active time data directly from Apple Health. It works with steps recorded by your iPhone, your Apple Watch, or any other device that writes to Apple Health. There is no manual data entry required — your counts are always pulled from the same source of truth your other health apps use.
